1. Veränderung des Tones nach Höhe u. Stärke beim Sprechen von Silben od. ganzen Sätzen, Tongebung (Sprachw.).
2. in der Gregorianik die vom Priester, Vorsänger od. Kantor gesungenen Anfangsworte eines liturgischen Gesangs, der dann vom Chor od. von der Gemeinde weitergeführt wird.
3. präludierende Einleitung in größeren Tonsätzen;
kurzes Orgelvorspiel (Mus.).
4. Art der Tongebung bei Sängern u. Instrumentalisten, z. B. eine reine, unsaubere, weiche Intonation (Mus.).
5. im Instrumentenbau, bes. bei Orgeln, der Ausgleich der Töne u. ihrer Klangfarben (Mus.);
